Time and attendance

Connect your biometric devices

Device keys, employee mapping and punch import.

Biometric devices turn fingerprint or card punches into attendance without anyone typing them in. Open Time & leave, Time & attendance and choose Biometric devices at the top of the page. It is also listed in Settings.

Register each device and issue its key. Every device gets its own key, shown once, which can only post punches for that device. Nobody's personal sign-in is ever stored on a device. Copy the key into the device, or the software it reports to, straight away. Replacing a key stops the old one at once. Switching a device off stops its key too, and switching it back on needs a new key.

Map device users to employees. Each device knows people by its own user number. Link each number to the right employee. Punches from a number that is not mapped are reported back rather than dropped, so you can fix the mapping and send them again.

Send or import punches. A device, or its software, posts punches with its key. If yours cannot do that, export its punch file and import it by hand on the same page. Times without a time zone are read in the device's time zone, or your organisation's. A batch sent with an idempotency key is applied once, even if it is resent.

Punches fold into the attendance log: the earliest clock-in of the day sets the start and the latest clock-out sets the end. Check the Log tab to confirm punches land on the right day.
