Payroll

Pay Element

A single earning or deduction: basic, an allowance, a loan, or PAYE.

A pay element is the atomic building block of pay: one earning or deduction such as basic salary, a housing allowance, a loan repayment or PAYE. Each element can be a fixed amount, a rate, a percentage of another element, or a formula, and it carries flags like taxable and pensionable that drive the calculation.
