Hash-chained audit log
An audit log where each entry carries a fingerprint of the one before, so tampering shows.
A hash-chained audit log is one where each entry carries a fingerprint (a hash) of the entry before it. If anyone edits or deletes an entry, the chain breaks and the change shows up when the log is checked. The Vintage People audit log works this way: entries are never edited or deleted, and each records the person, their IP address and browser, and the before and after values.
